Adult French Courses Sending our kids to learn French at school is great. Keeping up in French with them is even better. We have lots of opportunities to do so in this province, let me give three examples: —if you live in a remote area, work during the day and take care of your family during the evenings, or are disabled, a good idea to improve your French is to register for one of the two correspondence courses offered by the Open Learning Institute of the Ministry of Education of British Columbia (the course names: Fren- ch 020 and French 030). These courses are easy, and have oral communication in mind, come up with a number of cassettes, and allow you to talk over the phone to an instructor about once a week. As an example, UBC offers, through its Language Programs and Services, morning, noon hour, afternoon, evening and weekend courses, once or twice a week. They are non-credit conver- sational courses. The sessions last usually six weeks, so you are not committing yourself for months at a time. Three week Intensive Programs in French will start next Summer (1982) on June 1, June 21, July 12 and August 3. You can reside on campus and your kids can participate in some of the activities offered to them by the Centre for Continuing Education.
