Use of water for dust contol if a safety or sanitary concern exists or for compaction during
construction if no reasonable alternative exists.

Use of drip irrigation systems would not be aff: :d by the rictions.

Members would be asked to cooperate by:

Turning off non-recirculating ormamental fountains.

Filling wading pools only when forecasted weather i Is Sunny and over 20° C. The same mule
to apply to the use of water parks.

Curtailing street flushing.

Cunailing washing of municipal vehicles, unless required for safety reasons (i.¢. windows,
-ghts, license plates).

Assigning a higher than normal priority to investigation and repair of reported water leaks.
ihe GVWD would do the same for its system.

Proposed Additional Features:

¢ - Graphic in daily newspapers showing actual consumption level for previous day compared.
with target level.

Organize and publicize the launch of pilot-scale conservation programs as early in 1993 as
possible. This could include installation of indoor water-saving devices and education on
proper watering of lawns, possibly with the aid of a shutoff timer and would be |
co-ordinated with member municipalities who wish to initiate their own programs. |

Implementation of the Water Short: Response Plan

- The GVWD would notify member municipalities of the need for implementing or discontinuing

each of the successive phases of the plan through the weekly WSRP update bulletins.

A minimum of one week’s notice would be provided. Copies of the advertising materials to

accompany each stage of the plan would be available befure next summer. ee

Advertising in the daily and community newspapers would be arranged by GVWD. _ Those -
municipalities wishing. to adopt different conservation measures (if any) would be identified.

It is proposed that the water conservation advisory program (Stage [) be iraplemented in the spring
of 1993 regardless of the results of inflow forecasting, and that this include information on the.

. Sprinkling restrictions to be implemented in May under Stage 1. - | |

Members wit! also be requested to suspend their water main flushing program during the period —
of water-use restrictions each vear and to institute a | Program of fitting all’ free-flowing public

drinking fountains with spring type shutoff valves.
