SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENTS - VISCOUNT SCHOOL

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Place an additional back-to-back pedestrian crossing sign at the east side of the
crosswalk on Oxford at Salisbury.

_ Trim the tree at the northwest comer of the Oxford / Salisbury intersection.

_ Turn down the request for increased crosswalk identification such as overhead
signs and lights.

. Turn down the request for a 3-way stop and marked crosswalk at the Oxford /
Dorset intersection.

This letter raises concerns for pedestrians crossing at the above crosswalk. The reason for this
concern is because of speeding traffic on Oxford and increasing numbers of school children.
The attached plan shows the existing crossing and 30 kmh school zone on Oxford.

Two improvements to this crossing that should be made are to place an additional crossing
sign and trim the one tree, as described in recommendations | & 2 above

Oxford / Dorset Intersection

Also requested is a 3-way stop and a marked crosswalk at the Oxford / Dorset intersection.

A 3-way step would not be warrarted for the conditions at this intersection. Delays for Dorset
drivers entering Oxford are not significant and the accident records between 1986 and 1992
show only one accident, occurring in 1987.

The request for a crosswalk on Oxford at Dorset could be re-examined when the new school

fronting Dorset opens up. If this tocation proves to be highly used, a marked crossing could be

considerec at thattime. . M
