THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY GF PORT COQUITLAM TO: F, E. Peters, P. Eng., July 9th, 1980, City Ingineer. FROM: “he Melnechenko, P. Eng., Assistant City Engineer. Re: Handley Crescent Pump Station. ‘We have now completed an investigation into repairing the Handley Crescent Pump Station. One pump has totally failed, due to wear, and the other pump is currently handling the load with no back- up. At the time the first pump failed, the second pump was checked internally and found to be so worn that it could fail at any time. The pumps were manufactured by Peacock Bros. Ltd. of Montreal about 1966. This firm is now out of business and cannot supply replace- ment parts. The pumps can be exclusively repaired by Pumps and Power Limited but this would not be a recommended procedure because repairs will take several weeks, will be quite expensive and we will still end up with a product which we cannot get parts or service for in. the future, We checked with at least six pump suppliers, md one supplier has a pump which will fit very closely to our very tight and restricted Plumbing. Some minor modification will be needed and this modification is allowed for in the estimated cost mentioned further on. Tae pumps are available in Seattle and are the required matched pair. They are slightly larger than ours now and will provide approximately 30 to 40 percent more capacity than our pumps are giving now. ‘Their cost is about $10,000.00 each, FOB Port Coquitlam and installation with our forces will be about $5,000.00 total for all work involved. The pumps we have located are Crane - Demning Pumps and are manufactured in the U.S. Crane has been in the pump business for over fifty years, and we feel secure that parts and service will always he available in the future. We will need authorization ro spend the approximate $25,099.00 amount. The pumps are not common, and are the enly two available in the western part of the continent, and can be delivered within two days, Speed and time are absolutely of the essence in this authorization as the supplier tells us he may have another buyer for the pumps. yoy ee ae Jive 4.
