B6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, February 9, 2000 Zellers cafeteria closes By YVONNE MOEN A FOND farewell to Zel- lers’ cafeteria and to the six lovely ladies who worked there. -It was a very sad day Saturday, January 29 when after 22 years of operation, the cafeteria in Terrace’s Zellers store closed for good. The cafeteria was first opened in 1978 in the Kmart store. Zellers, which bought Kmart in August 1998, closed the cafeteria last month in order to make room for future ex- pansion of retail space. Longtime cafeteria em- ployees Theresa, Janet, Leulla, Aziz, Mary-Ann and Adrian had to say their final goodbyes to co-work- ers last month. Over the last six years that ] worked at Kmart and then Zellers, the staff in the cafeteria were a very friendly lot of ladies. Cer- tainly their cheerfulness and friendly service will be missed. It must seem rather ADIEU: Zellers cafeteria workers Theresa, Janet, Leulla, Aziz, and Mary-Ann say goodbye. Budgeting: Saving 10 per cent of your gross cnnual income is called “paying yourself first”. Unfortunately, other demands like morlgages, cars, and orthodontic broces muscle themselves Into the head of the line, One solution is to make on annual budget of all income and expenses. One line of that budget, equalling 15 ger cant of gross faraily incame, is the savings line. This is divided into Iwo’ parts: annual RRSP cantributions and paying down your after-tax debts such os mortgages and car loans, First, make the maximum RRSP contributions every year for you end your spouse. Use your tax refund, and ony money ict over fram your 15 per cant savings line, to repay abter-lax dabt such os mortgages, consumer loons ond cor loons, The mast sensible budgeting rule is: Poy off your entire credit cord bolance avery month, Ik your income exceeds your. expenses, you'll have the money to pay down debt foster ond invest,’ IF your expenses are higher you'll need fo eilher increase income or redute “expenses, Generally, it 1s easier to ‘J reduce expenses, * Mhere will-that 15 per cent - savings come from?
