No room for a garden?

TERRACE ANTI-POVERTY is looking for three more
adult gardeners and some interested children for its com-
munity garden. The garden is for people on low or fixed
incomes who don’t have any room for their own garden.

Of the five adult gardeners who've already signed up,

one uses a wheelchair, A separate raised waist-high bed
will be built to accommodate that person says organizer
Leila Burton. There’s also going to be an area for kids.
- Another way Burton hopes to get children involved is by
having a ‘Name the Garden’? contest for clementary
school aged students. Entries should be in by May 1 and
can be dropped off at the Anti-Poverty office on the sec-
ond floor of the Tillicum Twin Theatre building. Go to the
back entrance on Lazelle, The winner will be announced
May 7 and they'll get some movie passes to the theatre,

So if you’d love some garden space of your own, and are .
prepared to work in the garden once a week, then cali 635-
4631, or drop by the office and ask for Leila.

Y Work is already starting on preparing beds and trips to a»
jursery arc planned before planting starts in May.

“THE TERRACE Duplicate Bridge club hopes to parlay its
‘success wilh ils fall classic into a spring classic tournament
‘on April 26.

: This will be a two sessions open pairs game, and will be
‘held at the hot springs. Tue game will be sanclioned and
‘master points will be awarded.

- Session one gets underway at 1:30 p.m. with a 24-board
round scored duplicate style. After a dinner break session
‘two saris at 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

taking part in a skipping
jump off this Friday.
Called Jump Rope for
Heart, the program is
sponsored by the. Heart
and Stroke Foundation.

foundation hopes to en-
courage children to adopt
a heart smart lifestyle.
Physical inactivity is a
major risk factor for heart
and stroke disease.
During the jump-off
students: will take turns
jumping ropes in teams of |
four for two hours. Stu-
dents will be collected
pledges from friends and
neighbours to — raise
money for the Heart and
Stroke Foundation.
Copper Mt. is one of
400 schools across B.C.
and the Yukon taking part
in the program. Last year
those students raised
more than $1 million —
enough money to fund
about 75 per cent of all
cardiovascular research in
B.C,
