City economic development officer Ken
Veldman says the Terrace Tourism Council
is going to ask city council and the chamber
of commerce to each send a couple of rep-
resentatives to a mecting after Easter.

Veldman says the council wants to carry
out an annual tourism marketing campaign
worth about $100,000. But the city has cut
its share. to $45,000 and wants some
money-gencrator to cover the shortfall.

The tourism council’s first attempt to in-
traduce a two-per-cent room tax failed
when hoiel operators unanimously rejected
the idea as an unfair burden to them.

The council then suggested that all
businesses pay some kind of annual fee,
likely around $50, added to their business

The response wasn’t enthusiastic, and
Veldman hopes something can be worked
out with extra representatives on hand from
city council and the chamber of commerce.
