SUBJECT: 1990 Business License Fees

RECOMMENDATION:

That our business license fees be increased as per the attached schedule.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

The attached schedule reflects an "average" increase of 6% on the proposed fees and is
based on the 1990 budget guidelines which City Council authorized last fall.

A major review of our business licensing system was done in 1987 and this proposal
maintains the existing system which was determined by the Business License Task Force
in 1987 to be “fair and equitable". |

It is expected that $250,000 will be raised through business license fees increased from the
$233,716 raised in 1989.

The only exception to the 6% (average) increase is a proposed increase to $100 in rate
category 21; vehicles for hire. The increase here is based upon the attached memo from
the Chief Licensing Inspector and would effect the fees of taxis and independent truckers.

The only other comment at this point is that sometime in 1990 I would like to undertake a
major review f the amounts we are collecting from liquor outlets.
