That the 1988 budget for equipment pool maintenance (account no. 22311) be increased by $8,000. 2. That the 1988 Budget for the maintenance of traffic signals (account no. 22364) be increased by $7,000. Background and Comments: The foregoing recommendations are the result of discussions which took place during ltast week's Public Works Committee Meeting. At the time that the Provisional Budget was prepared ing last fall the City was not aware of the 22% increase In insurance premium for the City's fleet of equipment and icles. When this increase was announced by |1.C.B.C. it was too late to amend the 1988 Provisional Budget. The 22% increase in the insurance premiums represents several thousand dotlarse Discounting this 22% by the 3.25% intlation factor built into the proposed budget for 1988 and multiplying by the price tag of $42,000 for insurance premiums in 1987, the resultant cost increase is approximately $8,000. The Committee considers this budget increase request to be fully justifiable. Hence, the first recommendation before Council. Recently as a result of complaints from the public, the Operations Oepartment was made aware of the traffic signal malfunction at the corner of Pitt River Road and McLean Avenue. Over a period of severa! days our electrical contractor has been brought in to service the controller for the signal lights. He had a great deal of difficulty acquiring replacement parts due to the age of the controller unit (estimated to be 15 years old). Some of the necessary components were finally borrowed from the District of Coquitlam. The parts required to operate the pedestrian actuated signal heads were unfortunately not available. At present, the signal heads intended for motorists for the three-~ legged intersection perform as intended. However, none of the -i- “LS
