From the Leisure Activities Committee, February 28th, 1975, being a re Hockey School report advising that the Port Coquitlamin Amateur Athletic Association, in conjunction with the New Westminster Bruins, wish to run a Hockey School during the month of August, 1975, which was deferred at the last Council meeting pending the outcome of an election of officers meeting of the Minor Hockey Association held on Sunday, March 9th, 1975. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That as recommended in a report from the Leisure Activities Committee, February 28th, 1975, a Hockey School be run in the month of August, 1975 by the New Westminster Bruins; further, that the rental rate of the ice be $25.00 per hour. Carried. A representative of the New Westminster Bruins was in attendance and Alderman Traboulay said he wondered if the $25.00 per hour fee is sufficient, in view of the fact that last year the fee quoted was $27.50, and he commented that the City of Langley charges $35.00 per hour. Alderman Traboulay further pointed out that hockey schools are run because there is money in it, and stated he felt that the Council, as trustees of civic facilities, should be taking a harder look at the $25.00 per hour rate. Alderman Ranger pointed out that if the school runs 12 hours per day it could handle 300 boys per week at a profit of $16,500.00; whereas the City would realize only $25.00 per hour or $1,800.00 per week; however, the representative advised that there would be three classes made up of approximately 100 boys per week - not 300. Alderman Keryluk referred to Alderman Traboulay's advice that the City of Langley charges $35.00 per hour, and the representative advised that the New Westminster Bruins are running a hockey school in Delta at a cost of only $15.00 per hour. Alderman Ranger inquired whether the Bruins would require a business licence to operate the hockey school in Port Coquitlam, and the representative advised that they pay a licence fee of $10.00 to the B.C. Amateur Hockey Association to operate the school; however, Alderman Ranger stated his concern that the City would be responsibie if something went wrong. Alderman Ranger commented that
