FIRE DEPARTMENT ~— JANUARY 1973 HOUSE FIRES CHIMNEY GARBAGE CONTAINERS MALFUNCTION OF ALARM SYSTEM FLOODED OIL FURNACE CAR FIRE WASH DOWN OF GASOLINE SPILLS INHALATOR TRANSPORTED PNrFFP PW HES w Siren sounded 4 times (one a malfunction in B. C. Telephone Equipment). Damages approximately $40,000.00 Firemen attended 192, Man hours 224. Volunteers remuneration $375.00. 2 Firemen absent, total of 4 days. $40,000 damages: Approximately $15,000 to a home caused when an electric blanket short circuited igniting the bed. The owners had turned the blanket on about 15 minutes before they intended to retire, when they returned to the bedroom it was in flames. Approximately 25,000 damage to a home, which also started in a bedroom possibly by a child. Slight smoke damage was caused to a home when stove pipe went on fire. No damage occurred to a home when the owners called to say they could smell smoke. The smoke could have come from the fireplace. 31 Inhalator calls. 22 home emergencies consisting of heart attacks, strokes, epileptic seizures, 2 cases of bad cuts, small girl swallowed a bottle cap and another girl swallowed a part of a necklace. 2 motor vehicle accidents. 2 accidents to hockey players, one with a broken shoulder and the other one was hit on the head.
