WALKING BACKWARDS over a cliff was the perfect way to
start off a summer of rock climbing jor local Tania Millen. Rock
climbing is a sport that can only be practiced in dry weather, and
last week's warm temperatures brought out many happy clim-
bers. Here she rappels down the face of “candybox," a practice
climbing rock at Copper Mountain. Millen was getting in shape

for future forays up “tha white spot" a challenging climb on the
same mountain.

TLT ready for Mainstage

TERRACE LITTLE THEATRE’S award winning play ‘‘Escape from
Happiness” goes into rehearsals for a series of benefit performances in
June, The actors are raising money to compete at Mainstage, an upcom-
ing annual provincial drama festival

In the meantime, two of the actors have left the play, being unable to
travel to Mainstage in Kamloops in July.

Annetle Martindale takes the place of Cheryl Lemasurier as Dian in
the play. The part of Rolly, previously played by Bruce Lindsay, will
be filfed by Jim Branch,

Martindale was last seen on stage in TLT's ‘‘Talking With...’’ She
has directed and stage managed numerous numbers. She was recently
awarded ‘‘Best Backstage Coordinator” at the Skeena Zone Drama
Festival for her stage management of “‘Firebugs.”’

This will be Jim Branch’s second George Walker play. He appeared
in ‘*The Art of War’? in 1989. Branch just finished playing the lead in
“Firebugs,””

Helping the children

BE ON THE LOOKOUT for members of the Order of the Royal Purple
at local storcs.on May 6.....

They'll be asking for donations to help hearing impaired children.
And they hope Terrace residents will be as generous as they were last
year.

The order has declared next week, May 7-13, as Purpte Cross Week,
Although fundraising activities are highlighted at that time, they con-
tinue throughout the year, ; ;

The local women’s lodge raised $30,000 last year. Donations from
Terrace area residents to the women’s lodge are the largest per capita in
the coutury, The men’s lodge came in third in the country.
