hil A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughzessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC on Monday, March Ist, 1993, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Councillors M.D. Gates, MJ. Gordon, J.J. “eryluk, R.H. Talbot, M.A. Thompson, and M.R. Wright were in attendance. Also in attendance were City Administrator B.R. Kirk, City Clerk S. Rauh, Acting Director of Parks & Recreation L. Wheeler, and Junior Planner J. Lee. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Councillor Thompson: Seconded by Councillor Talbot: That the minutes of the Regular Council meeting held on February 22rd, 1993 be taken as read and adopted. Carried. PR TIONS: WHEREAS the United Nations has declared March 8th to be International Women’s Day; WHEREAS Women constitute 52 percent of the population and do not have 50 percent representation at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government; WHEREAS the wage gap between women and men is 40 percent and consistently receive less remuneration and recognition for the roles they perform; WHEREAS the Pert Coquitlam Area Women’s Centre and Transition House cared for 1,044 battered women in 1992; WHEREAS we must acknowledge the contributions women have made and recognize the issues and challenges facing women; AND WHEREAS Women constitute a driving force to eradicate poverty, eliminate sexism and racism, and improve health and educational sources, NOW THEREFORE I, Leonard M. Traboulay, Mayor of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM Monday, March 8th, 1993, as: “INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY" in the City of Port Coquitlam and instruct that the United Nations flag be flown over our municipality in recognition of International Women’s Day.
