BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: A letter and petition of concern regarding traffic improvements on Davies. and Hastings was recently received by the Engineering Dept. Davies and Hastings currently are designated collector streets from Lougheed to Westwood, two sections of Davies from Hastings to Raliegh and Fox to Westwood have been upgraded to 10.5m pavement complete with curb and gutter. Existing speed limit is 50 kmh for entire length, vehicle usage is mixed as there is residential to the north of Davies and light industrial for the full length south of Davies. For a number of years the Davies/Hastings route has been used as a shortcut to bypass the congested intersection of Westwood and Lougheed by traffic travelling west and east. Average daily traffic volumes in 1987 were 2400 vpd compared to 3900 vpd totals taken in 1992, the counts were taken at the game Hastings location south of Lougheed. (see attached)
