THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM -~ Qa The Committee has considered several ways of dealing with this problem and has recommended one change to the overall contract. The Committee feels that rather than spending at least $15,000.00 to keep our old pumps operational, we should instead abandon. the old pumping stations and install a second pump in each of the new pumping stations. Since we would be spending an additional $47,000.00 for pumps and saving about $15,000.00 on the contract, the net cost would be approximately $32,000.00 which is only $16,000.00 for each pumping station. We would then have brand new facilities at both locations. The Committee recommends: 1. That the contract for construction of the two pumping stations be awarded to Doyle Construction Co. Ltd. at a tendered price of $294,870.00, less negotiated changes resulting from the deletion of the old. pumping stations and the addition of two new pumps. . 2. That the City purchase two additional pumps from Wilron Equipment Ltd. who were the low bidders on the City's initial order of two pumps. The price would have to be negot- iated and we would naturally attempt to get the same price as for the first pumps but I suggest that Council authorize us to go up by at least 10 percent if necessary which is still well below the second low tender. 3. That financing of the additional cost be approved as set out in the report from the City Treasurer which is attached. .ITEM IT Re: Cleanup of Chester Dump Area We have considered the possibility of hiring a cat. to level off the Chester dump area in order to leave it ina condition suitable for park development. We estimate that the cost would be approximately $6,400.00 assuming 80 hours work at $80.00per hour. We have received a proposal from Ralston Excavating which would allow us to have this work done at no cost by allowing him to extract gravel from the dump area. Mr. Ralston estimates that he would be able to take about 5,000 to 6,000 cubic yards of pit run gravel from the corner of the Chester dump located behind the Dawson Construction yard. This gravel would be of little use to us since it would be necessary to excavate and stockpile it for future use and our costs for doing this would be almost as much as simply buying the gravel. In addition, under the Soil Removal By~law, we would obtain a royalty of 20 cents per cubic yard for the material excavated and removed by Ralston. It is therefore to our advantage to accept this proposal. J3Bsov8
