Mary Fox brought in her latest graceful, fragile forms that were either raku- fired or saggar-fired, Some were compound pots, - that is, two thrown pleces joined Logether. Their subtle, dry rough surface contrasted handsomely with Gordon Reisig’s bulbous forms with their rich, dramatically glazed surfaces. Some pieces have been altered by beating the pot when leather-hard, while still others have wax-resist decoration , giving these pois an interesting vigour. Robin Righton brought in excellent, softly swelling forms, thinly glazed, producing a rich, coppery or blue opalescent finish. He, like Geoff Searte, sur- prised me by bringing in raw, burnished unglazed pots that had been “raku-fired”, creating a soft- sheened surface with blushes or marks of gray, black, browns, reds or yellow. Geojf Searle in- cluded his latest, extraordinary white crackle- glazed thrown vases and basket forms. some of which had handles or additions, a few of which were handsomely accented with gold thread, Overall, an interesting show of raku work. Cherie Markiewicz LIBRARY REPORT We would like to announce the acquisition of three new books. “Electric Kiln Ceramics”, by Richard Zakin, was replaced. “Glory in Porcelain", Edited by Peg Weiss. This ts a lovely book on the life and work of Adelaide Robineau, 1865-1929, American art potter. It has beautiful illustrations and interesting text and also includes some of her glaze and body formulae. “Contemporary Pottery Decoration”, by John Gibson. An excellent book that explores the differ- ent techniques of several well-known potters, Very informative and a must on your reading Ist.
