Provincial 10 Terrace Review — Wednesday, July 23, 1986 Driver gets airborne | in runaway car TERRACE — On July 12 and 13 at the Ter- race Speedway, the Sup- erstock Invitational, sponsored by Smitty’s Excavating and S.K.B. Auto Salvage, was held. The event featured a full compliment of races on Saturday in all classes after being delayed by rain, The racing was very fast and the spectators in attendance saw a good show. The fastest time of the day was Car 7 from Quesnel at 17.61 seconds in the Superstock ‘Class, A Hobby Stock visitor from Prince George in ‘Car 7 Hobby was driven by Terry Anderson. On Sunday the racing was fast in all three classes. In the main event a Superstock 75 lap race was held. There was lots. of ex- Tourists abound in local parks . At Lakelse Lake the Parks are receiving a good amount of tourists this season. by Philip Musselman According to statistics, the day use of the lake is up about 50 percent from last year’s figures. Camping hasn’t seen much of a change; although, a lot of American tourists go _through there on their way up north or down to Expo. This is the 75th an- niversary for B.C. Parks and to add to the chain a park at Meziadin Lake has opened this year and is doing a wonderful business. It seems that the park is just about full every night. The park is located near the turnoff of Stewart at the Meziadin Junction and it offers 42 camping sites along with the beauty of nature. citment when Car 88, driven by local driver Randy Goodwin had his ‘throttle spring break making it impossible to slow down his car. The vehicle went off the top of one corner at better than 90 mph and flew. close to 150 feet in mid air then slid through the trees for another 70-100 feet. The driver was unhurt and the car, being built to track safety stan- dards, will race again with some minor repairs. The race after being delayed by the accident, continued for the re- mainder of the 75 laps. Car 70 from Prince George driven by George Code, had the front steering break in lap 65 but continued on slowly to complete the race. The .competition end- ed with Car 7 from Quesnel, driven by Jon Sangles, winning. Other accidents on this weekend occurred on Saturday night when Car 888, driven by Clayton Kerr, went off number One corner. Another mishap involved Car 863 which spun out and hit a log barrier on the back Straightaway. On Sunday Car 13, driven by Dieter Schlenker, lost control and spun out in Two cor- ner and came to rest against the barrier on the back straight, In Car 55 Ron Scrople went off the top of number Two cor- ner, Car 190 and Car 555 tangled on number Three corner. On Saturday Car 61, Driven by Don Lecro, got bumped and ended up in the pond inside One and Two corners. With all these accidents the action was very ex- citing and no one was in- jured. The drivers of Car 69 and Car 190 would like to thank Car 911, which was out with mechanical problems for giving them parts off their disabled vehicle to allow them to keep rac- ing. The next race event at the Terrace Speedway is on July 26 and 27 which is the Memorial Weekend.
