season for the forestry ‘men,

Their main job has been to
inspect timber stands in the
approximately 8,000 square
miles which is the responsibility
of the Terrace-based branch,

Rangers have gone inby ski-doo
and then by snowshoes to check
the condition of the local lumber,
Purpose of the inspections,
according to Forest Ranger
Gorley is “to insure that all
merchantable wood is being utl-
lized,””

There's another purpose inthe
winter trekking: to make sure
that logging contractors. are
living up to the conditions of
the contracts and permits,

Despite heavy snow this year,
ranger Gorley sald that winter
is an ideal time for inspection,
