Kleanza Creek Placer Proving Rich in Gold The great alluvial masses of Kleanza Creek have been the source of much concern to pro- spectors. The discovery of placer gold on the water level bars and bed of the present creek always indicated another source for the rich float — perhaps, an upper ehannel deposited during the great erosion period, when the heavily oxidized formation ‘over a north-south course was carried away, leaving the gold free as found in the placer wash, worn and smooth, while small nuggets have been found just released from their envelope of pyrite— yellow, bright and jagged, not worn in the least, being protect- ed by its pyrite covering while travelling. An example of this deposition is observed in the quartz gangue of the Golden Crown, where free gold can be seen entirely surrounded by pyrt- ite. All the outerops of existing veins carrying arsenical pyrite in this viemnity carry commercial gold quantities. At the upper end of Cassiar Bar, about fifty feet aboye the present creek level, Geo. Min- chin and Joe Marchildon, have been prospecting during last fall and early this spring and have cross-cut the channel and opened up some pits and have blocked an area of over 100 feet that will contain about 3000 cu. vds. of ditt that will average about $8 per yard over a third of the area and about $4 over the balance, The bank has an average of 8 feet deep, three feet of which is good pay, Their water supply was cut short owing to seepage, and to undertake putting on water from the side creeks will take time, which they now have under con- sideration. “Tn the - ‘meantime they are wheeling the dirt toa chute and : washing at the creek. The gold has evidently © come from .the upper bench, which . is. about 100 feet higher upiand is of a coarse order. . qromesmme ies = ont SS _of her pioaeure when the Ring: P: aga, y a 70 peace, , ee ce No doubt--- ia bought atR, W.
