/4, UBCM re 72nd June 2nd, 1975 Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That a letter be sent to the British Columbia Telephone Company requesting that the City be advised of the costs involved in providing equal telephone rates to subscribers throughout the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Keryiuk stated he felt that while requesting costs involved in providing equal telephone rates would serve as a first step, he would like to see a rebuttal to the Telephone Company's letter and some arguments stating the facts as seen by the City for equality of service; however, Alderman Laking pointed out that at the time of the last increase, the Telephone Company stated that the City would be receiving the same calling benefits as Whalley, and that this should be taken into account when they are Preparing their restructured rates. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay suggested that the Telephone Company officials be invited to meet zith the Council and discuss the matter. From the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, May 26th, 1975, Annual Convention P/Wks.Comm. re being the official notice of the 72nd Annual Convention of the UBCM to be heid in Penticton, B. C., September 10th, lith, and 12th, 1975. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay, and Aldermen Keryluk, Laking, Mabbett, and Ranger indicated they would be attending the Convention with their wives; however, Alderman Thompson stated he was as yet undecided in that regard. The City Clerk pointed out that the final date for acceptance of resolutions is Friday, June 27th; however, late resolutions will be accepted up tili twelve noon on Monday, September 8th, provided 500 copies of each late resolution are supplied.
