Re: U.B.C.M. Resolution - Election Expenses.

At the regular Council meeting of January 14th, 1980 we were instructed to prepare
a resolution for consideration by the Council and further to the 1980 Convention
of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities on the above noted subject and we
would’ suggest the following wording:

"That the Government of Canada be requested to amend the appropriate Income Tax

_ Legislation or Regulations in order that election campaign expenses incurred by
candidates for Municipal Office may. be deducted from income prior to calculation
of Income Tax payable; :

AND THAT the said deduction be permitted without limit or, alternatively,
limited to a realistic amount determined by the Federal Authorities."
