The Spring campaign has been planned for mid-March. they Open letter to Terrace residents, Let’s take a look at an average family on Sunday. Mom and Dad arise at 8 a.m, and look outside. It’s been snowing and there is almost eight inches piled up. ‘‘Where is the snowplow, it should have been here and cleaned up this mess."” The snowplow came and went, Dad cleaned the driveway with a snowblower and they got to church on time. The minister met them at the door and the organist was playing Amazing Grace. After church, the family ‘went home and had lunch, then decided to go swim- ming: They had a nice swim and stopped at the corner store for a cool pop. While they were drinking their pop in the car, they decided to go for a drive to the lake. But first, they would have to get some gas. On the way home they had a flat tire. . They dropped it off at the Service station for repairs. Terrace Review — Wednesday, January 21, 1987 5 Public should think before sign Letter . Now, I realize that the minister and organist are only working a couple of hours. But, it is work and they get paid for it. The other people working this Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. X’s benefit are the follow- ing: the municipal snowplow operator, the lifesaver and ticket-taker at the poci, the corner store staff, the Depart- ment of Highways crew, the service station atien- dants, the waitress, cook, dishwasher at the restaurant, the admitting clerk, the emergency room nurse, the doctor at the hospital, the operating room staff consequently called out, the Hydro linemen, the RCMP who investigated the telephone pole accident, and televi- sion technicians. There are also others who _work for our benefit on — radio an- Mom sudd reallzed that she forgot to take some meat out of the freezer for dinner. No problem! They could eat out. The family just got back home when the daughter complained of a terrible stomach ache. Mom decided to take her to the emergency room at the hospital. The girl at the admitting desk asked for the $10 emergency room fee. Mom was furious. She couldn’t help it if the doctor’s office was closed on Sundays. Daughter has appendicitis and is checked into the hospital for an operation. (Mom's $10 fee is cancell- ed as the emergency turn- ed into an admission). Back at home, Dad is furious too, for a different Teason. “‘Someone ran in- to the telephone pole down the street and now the power is out.” He Teally wanted to watch that show on TV and now he’s going to miss it, while the Hydro people try to get the power back on. Wednesday Is SHIRT DAY Men’s or Ladies’ cotton blend nouncers, crews who repair phone and cable lines, gas lines, water tains. How many people take advantage of corner stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, sports events at the arena, ball park, etc., where there are paid workers on Sundays? These people all have to work and have done so for years. Why is it suddenly just the families of downtown retailers that everyone seems so con- cerned about? All these other people have families too. Aren’t they just as important? If working on Sunday leads to family breakdown, then all these other people must have disastrous family lives. So, if a person working at one of these. establish- ments must work on Sun- day, what makes the users of these same services any better? - Personally, I rarely shop for-anything on Sun. days as I don’t wark and have all the week for shop- ping, car repairs, etc. But I think people should have the choice to do so if they wish. I have signed neither for or against Sunday shopping and don’t intend to do so, but I-think the public should really think before they sign. cither y The Hair Gattai Tarrace Totem Ford GP?
