Ironworkers Local No. 1 has |
won unanimous support in the
first certification vote in its

struggle to represent B.C.
ironworkers.

A vote at Steel Bilt Con- |
tractors, N. Vancouver, was

A breakaway is ~underway
among operating engineers.in
Ontario. A letter sent-out by
the officers of a newly-con-
stituted Canadian Union of
Operating. Engineers, calls on
all Ontario locals to join. the
new organization. The letter
says the decision to make
such a move was made-by the
representatives of a number of
Canadian locals at the time of
the international convention
of the Operating Engineers at
Miami Beach.

Irvine heads CCF
China delegation

William Irvine, veteran lead-
er of the Alberta CCF, arriv-
ed in China on July 13 leading
a delegation composed of five
other members of the Co-oper-
ative Commonwealth Federa-
tion,

The delegation has come to
China at the invitation of the
Chinese People’s Institute of

‘Foreign Affairs. Irvine visited

the Soviet Union recently and
wrote a book on his return.
