This ss ae ‘S asked by many people “Tope, inGermany itself, who ‘ are mostly misinformed re- garding the intentions ofthe West German imperialists. Here is an extract translated from the trade union magazine FDGB-RUNDSCHAU, published monthly in the GDR; “The so-called ‘Grey Plan’ is a plan for conquest of the German Democratic Republic. It is the main feature in the West German imperialist plot against the GDR, the first German workers’ and peasants’ state.’’ Already in March 1952 there was a so-called research council created to study the “German question” and this council be- came another official organ of the revanche ministry. It had the task of working out detailed plans to show how the. former ruling position of German cap- italists could be restored, ac- companied by the destruction of socialist power in the GDR. Participating in this council were 13 representatives of the biggest West German banks, in- dustrialists, some former fas- cists, and “East®” experts. Eight of the 13 had been members of a similar council set up to plan the looting of the wealth of neigh- boring countries over-run by the Hitler forces in World War II, These ambitions of the West German monopolists areillusory but nonetheless dangerous for within them is calculated large scale war. Driven by the thirst for power and profits they regard the socially-owned means of pro- duction in the GDR as enemy property. In short, the “Grey Plan” is out to force capitalist economy on the population of East Germany with all the land, the banks and the factories, the means of communication, falling once again into the hands of mon- opoly finance capitalists. GDR, together with the peace- loving people in West Germany will see to it that the Grey Plan of the West German imperialists and militarists is thoroughly ex- posed and thwarted until it will not be worth the paper it’s written on! * > * New UN? Hydro wants the city to take over the money-losing system. : New Westminster has had con- trol over the distribution of elec- tricity to home owners for some _time and is clearing $700,000_— a year on this operation. If we in Vancouver did the same, Rankin says, we could probably make $7 million a year from this source alone which, would go a long way towards paying bus operation deficits. “But that still wouldn’t solve our transit problems,” Rankin - added. “Our bus fares are too high, the service is inadequate and traffic congestion is increas- ing every year, The only way out of this situation, which can only get worse and which freeways cannot solve, is a low fare rapid transit system that will bring people instead of cars into the city.” Alderman Rankin, who is a member of a City Council com- mittee named to meet with the DUNDAS B-A (WALL & DUNDAS ST.)
