Aude Ray and Philippe Brach will open the 25th edition of the Festival dété francophone de Vancouver 2014 on Thursday, June 19th, on the TV5-Unis stage. This year, Le Centre has chosen Philippe Brach, a singer-songwriter- composer who stands out with his folk-rock-country music, his playful universe, his energy, and his guitar. His lyrics speak volumes about real issues. His participation in the «Francouvertes» competition in 2014 coincides with the launch of his very first album, ‘La foire et lordre? available since April 2014, with a playful folk sound in a genre specially created for the sake of anyone who is too ready to put a label on him. Some people still insist on hearing the famous “sound of the lake” in his songs, the one that the Saguenay flows into. You can judge for yourself. One thing is certain, it is full of catchy melodies, irreverence, its raw and it takes you beyond your comfort zone. Compromises? Not many for Brach. At the age of just barely 24, he has performed an impressive number of shows. In 2013, Philippe was the winner of Ma Premiére Place des Arts, in addition to winning the SOCAN award for Song of the Year. He took part in the Francofolies de Montréal not once but three times, and won three awards, including the Sirius XM _ top prize at the Festival en Chanson de Petite-Vallée. His show at the Festival dété francophone de Vancouver will precede his appearance at the FrancoFolies de Montréal on Saturday, June 21. In the first part of Philippe Brach’s performance, Le Centre will welcome the talented Aude Ray. Just as in the case of our partnership with the Francouvertes, Le Centre has made the commitment over recent years to present the winner of Pacifique en chanson at the Festival dété Once again, as good luck would have it, Aude Ray is launching her very first album, ‘La Siréne’in 2014. Aude Ray hails from the Montreal region, and has been writing and composing since she was fifteen years old. Having pursued studies in the arts and humanities, fine arts, and jewellery, she is a well-rounded artist. For the past three years, she has been living in the magnificent town of Whistler where she teaches “creative” music, as she calls it, to children in her studio, which she calls ‘Emerald’ This serves as her home base for various artistic projects: music, visualarts, jewellery, and in particular the musical production “Aude Ray et le bagage de réves” that she created in 2011, a show that includes music, improvisation, poetry, visual effects and dance.
