Th: + the City of Port Coquitlam form an Emergency Planning
Committee to abate the adverse effects of a Civ! Emergency or
Disaster on people, property and/or the environment through
effective planning and training of essential service agencies

in Port Coguitiam.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:

The majority of B.C. Cittes or Munteclpaltttes have an emergency
planning committee staffed in most cases by the following: —

(1) Alderman ~ chalrperson | |
(2) Pollce ‘representative
(3) Fire representative
(4). Engtneering representative
(3) City Administrator
(6) Health representative
(7). Emergency Program Coordinator
(8) Secretary °.. | -.
The committee activities address pre-determined objectives
dealing with plan updating, staff tralning, pubitc tnformatton,
response capabilities, ete. In most cases. meetings every two
months are restricted to 11/2 hours tn duration and are
structured around a. forma! agenda, which Is circulated the week
before the meeting with relevant support documentation,
Committee members witt| be expected to address the
recommendations contatned tn the agenda reports. As most
committee members, are also participants In the Emergency
Response control group the monthly meetings are benefictal in
bullding Inter=departmental working refattonships which will be
Invaluable when dealing under stress with an actual civil .

ee Committee deal with emergency planning as
part of its’ responsibilities and that the
chairman be. given the mandate to request
attendance of those people listed in this.
