Chairman Public Works Committee From: V.G, Boxch, P. Eng., : cc: Alderman E.W, Mabbett, . City Enpineer Deputy Chairman Public Works, Re: Local Improvements Propram ~ Road Construction. Reference is made to the Public Works Committee meeting held Thursday, February 24th, 1972 and in particular our discussions relating to the section of the 1972 Provisional Budget outlining the Proposed local improvement expenditures, The following points were discussed: © 1). With the exception of account #28600-1 ~ Oxford Street, Prairie to Lincoin, the list of proposed local improvements did not seem to be high priority - projects as far as the road needs of the entire City are concerned, — list of projects submitted could be approved on a chronological basis 2) The . 48 easily as any other basis, 3) The Committee is not aware of en existing Council priority determining the limites of local improvements, to be undertaken each year. At some point in the future if local improvements are undertaken every year, considerable re~ payments will be required. Some direction is needed as to the desirable level of repayment to be reached. 4) The Committee is concerned that low priority local improvement projects will. use up funds that might be better directed towards high priority road projects. As a result of the above considerationsit is my understanding that the Committee would like the Municipal Council to review the local improvement policies so that a more well defind basis for recommending road projects can be undertaken by the Public Works Committee.
