Vandals smash windows

A DAY AT the beach wasn’t so sunny for a young
Kitimat man after he returned to his vehicle to find
it had heen the target of some serious vandalism.

The green Ford Explorer was parked just off Hwy
16 by the gates to Furlong Bay Provincial Park the
morning of June 15, police said. When the man re-
turned in the afternoon he found the vehicle had
been pushed down an embankment and each of ils
windows smashed. with boulders. Police said dam-
age to the vehicle was extensive.

Terrace cops at G8

SIX TERRACE RCMP members were working in
Alberta last week as world leaders congregated for
the G8 Summit. The general duty members put
their names forward and were chosen based on cer-
iain skills they have.

Money to pay the officers comes out of federal
coffers, said provicial RCMP officials. Terrace de-
tachment commander Insp. Marlin Degrand said
having those members away for the week did not
impact police staffing here.

“Most of them were people who were on days off
anyway so it has had no impact on our operations
at all,” he said. “They are only gone for a short
period of time.”
