We don’t usually have the resources to bring a junior member in and train them to have the necessary job skills. This is a very competitive industry,”’ So far, 450 youths have started work through the program. The government subsidizes wages and benefits, while employers cover travel and training costs. And Patschke is happy with the way things are goiug. “It’s great,’’ she says. “‘It’s exactly what I want to be doing.”’ Patschke graduated in June from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geog- 7 RECENT UNIVERSITY graduate Solve} Patschke i is getting her foot i in the “door, thanks to anew govemment program aimed at helping young people get work experience. gain experience and how that will impact steams, figures out discharge rates and works on ways to improve the health of a stream. Gordon plans on keeping her on permanently. “This has worked out really well for us,” Gordon says. ‘‘Solvej’s internship ends in No- vember, but we want to keep her.” cues 6951S FAST, ACCURATE KEYS Complete Locksmith Services| * Keys Cut * Locks keyed * Lock Installed * Locks Master Keyed ¢ Journeyman tocksmiths d 4624A Greig Ave. \ Phone: 635-5549 Fax: 635-1918 .
