They beat Repap 3-0 In the final. ~Skeena Sawmills double winner August 28 weekend turned out to be ‘“‘Skeena Sawmills weekend’? in Terrace as teams sponsored by the company emerged triumphant in soccer and softball playoit | tour- naments. As for the softball, it was the annual 33-team mixed ' scrub tournament that ran from Sun- day the 21st to Sunday the 28th. Following six nights of round- robin play, the top 16 teams ad- vanced to a single elimination series. a After winning all three of their round-robin contests, Sawmills took on CNR in the opening final series and beat them 29-20. Advancing to quarter finals, Sawmills then knocked off Gar- fields 17-3. That put them into the semi-finals where they bounced Skeena Cellulose 22-14. In the championship match against Family Connection, the Sawmills gang doubled up on the Family’s scoring to post a 12-6 victory, ‘The other semi-final saw the Family edge Weekend Warriors 13-12 in 10 innings. Playing off for third and fourth prior to the title game, the Cellulose crew. beat the Warriors 13-8. Scores of all playoff games can- be found in. this week’s Scoreboard, Soccer victory Skeena Sawmills’ second weekend triumph came on the | soccer pitch where they put together three straight wins to grab the Northwest Men’s: League title. - The playoff started August 20 with three games — Repap 7-1 over Greenville G.A.C., Wanderers 1-0 over Greenville Royals; and Skeena Sawmills 2-0 over Silver Bullets. Next day saw G.A.C. eliminate the Royals 1-0, Repap take out the Wanderers 2-1 and Silver Bullets sideline G.A.C. 4-1, On the 27th weekend, Sawmills. needed overtime to knock out Silver Bullets 2-1. Next _morning ‘ they blanked Wanderers 5-0. That ‘evening they. came through with a 3-0 win over Repap for the championship. - ~ Ansems, Fleischmanand Murray bring home medals The Smithers Fall Fair -10-kilometer foot race attracted. 59 competitors on Sunday the - 28th.
