The Soviet army and people responded .. . Although more than a quarter of a century has passed since the end of World War 2, its events are still stirring the minds of millions of people of different generations throughout the world. Reverting to these events again and again, they strive to understand better the cause and sources of the victo- ry which the Allies of the Anti- Hitler Coalition won over the fascists. The immensity of World War 2 is explained not only by the large-scale military clashes be- tween the two groups of states. It was, above all, determined by the irreconcilability of the ideo- logical struggle between them. Assessing the results of the war it should be’ noted that in this battle the forces of socialism, represented by the Soviet Union, defeated the shock force of world imperialism — Hitler’s Germany and its allies. Bourgeois historians ignore ; fz Aub : | f ¢. 2h Soldiers of the Third Reich murdered, looted aa barasa cities in their works this most impor- tant aspect of World War 2. They are doing it deliberately, for, not disdaining to distort and falsify facts, the apologists of bourgeois society pursue the political aim of justifying im- perialism’s present day aggres- sive policy, rehabilitating their former military enemies, re- tarding the world revolutionary and national-liberation move- ment. The reactionary histor- ians of the West and, above all, the American historians exert every effort to belittle the Soviet Union’s decisive role in defeating fascism. In multi-volume _ scientific works, in memoirs of generals _and admirals, in countless art- icles and popular illustrated publications, which have ap- peared in the West in the post- war period, one can trace one common tendency — the desire to exaggerate in every possible way the significance of the mili- tary effort of the Western 7 ¥ ‘ees .s q 2 hme x end towns certain of their impunity. PACIFIC TRIBUNE, FRIDAY, JULY 2,:1971—PAGE 6 Thirty years ago, on June 22, 1941, the fascist hordes of German imperialism perfidiously invad- ed the Soviet Union. How in the ensuing gigantic struggle, the forces of socialism represented by the Soviet Union smashed the shock force of world imperialism is related here by Colonel Anatoly Korkeshkin, Editor-in-chief of Soviet Military Review: PPO POPPI certain western historians in general keep quiet, or, some- times, casually mention some- thing about the decisive battles powers, and to deprecate the greatness of the victories scor- ed by the Soviet Army, to slur the military skill of its officers and men, and to conceal the of World War 2 — the battles real reasons for the crushing of Moscow, Stalingrad and setback sustained by the giant Kursk — whereas, at the same fascist war machine. time, the importance of the = oe i _ operations of the Western she: Military historical. 9er Powers in North Africa and vice of the U.S. Army directly vested the American military historians with the task of sub- stantiating and propagandizing the deliberately false and un- grounded tenet, as if the Soviet armed forces were not the main architect of the victory in World War 2. And this is neither the first year, nor the first day that such: attempts are being made. John Snell, an American pro- fessor alleges, for exainple, that since December 1941 the Unit- ed States became the leading force of the coalition. And E.
