THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM TO B.R. Kirk January 30, 1991 City Administrator FROM: I.R. Zahynacz, P. Eng. City Engineer SUBJECT: SCHOOL ZGNK EXTENSION ~ PRAIRIE & TORONTO (Public Works Committee Meeting of January 29, 1991) Recommendation: That the City of Port Coquitlam extend the existing school zone for Birchland Elementary School along Prairie Avenue from Stafford Street to Toronto Street. Background & Comments: The Public Works Committee met with Mr. & Mrs. Kingman to discuss traffic improvements at the Prairie & Toronto crogswalk; the attached memo from the City Engineer regarding crosswalk improvements was considered © The Kingmans stated that vehicles are travelling at excessive speeds at the crosswalk located on Prairie and Toronto. The Public Works Committee felt that it would be appropriate, due to the proximity of Birchland Elementary School, to reduce the speed limit to 30 km/h from 50 km/h at this location. The speed limit can be reduced at this location by extending the exising school zone on Prairied from Stafford to Teronto as shown on the attached plan. Sgt. Kaminski, RCMP, stated that the RCMP will be patrolling the area when the new school zone sign is installed. 4 +3 — T.R/ Zahynacz City Engineer IRZi ge Attachments
