January 3rd, 1977 Pollock, City Engineer, Mr. v.qG. Borch, and Fire Chief, Mr. W.S. Wingrove - the latter two in particular for their efforts in the construction of the No. 2 Fire Hall on the North Side of the City, and he advised that this project cost a total of $281,598.00. Alderman Keryluk advised that at present, the firefighting personnel are still operating out of the No. 1 Fire Hall, and that the strength of the force was increased to 30 with the hiring of 8 additional men in August, 1976. Alderman Keryluk then referred to the Fraser Valley Regional Library, and stated he felt that that library system was providing a gcod level of service for the money spent, with the City's share being less thant $5.00 per capita. Alderman Keryluk further advised that in 1976 two major branches were opened in Cloverdale and in White Rock, and while the anticipated opening of the Branch in Port Coquitlam did not occur last year due to construction delays, it is expected to be completed about January 15th. Alderman Keryluk advised that the size of the new facility is approximately 8,500 square feet as compared with the Present 2,000 square foot building, and that the book supply will be increased from about 10,000 to 30,000. Alderman Keryluk advised that in 1976 the City received Provincial Government grants for furnishing the new facility in excess of $50,000.00, and another submission has been made to Victoria for an additional $40,000.00 C) in that regard. Alderman Keryluk advised that the prime responsibility : 4 i i } j of the Library Construction Committee appointed in 1976 was to look into ways and means of providing a new Library building for the City in the future, and that it is hoped such a facility, proposed to be developed in conjunction with a Greater Vancouver Housing Corporation housing project, can be realized in 1980 at no cost to the taxpayers. Alderman Keryluk then expressed appreciation to the citizens of Port Coquitlam for having given him the Opportunity of serving as Alderman, and to those in the assembly for attending the meeting this evening. _ Alderman Laking- Alderman Laking then addressed the meeting and stated that during the past year he had the privilege of serving as Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Committee, with Co-Chairman Alderman Traboulay and Committee members: City Administrator L.D. Pollock and Planning Officer Lanson Lee. Alderman Laking commented that a greater portion of building permits this year was for commercial and industrial construction; however, as vacant land is becoming scarce in the City, redevelopment will take place in certain areas.
