Freeman, City Clerk, The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C, ¥3C0 248 Dear Sir: Red Bridge ~- Pitt River Road Crossing, mileage 1.52 Westminster Subdivision, Canadian Pacific Limited. It is understood that the problem at this crossing was discussed at a meeting between yourself, Mr. Gillis and Mr. Eisler of the Railway Transport Committee. A meeting was also held in Ottawa with Mr. Thompson and Mr. Borch of the City of Port Coquitlam. Representing the Railway Transport Committee at this meeting were Mr. J. d* Avignon, the Secretary and Mr. T.R. Alexander, the Chief Civil Engineer. It is understood that as a result of the repairs being completed to the bridge over the Fraser River the rail traffic over the crossing has decreased considerably and that the problem has to some extent been alleviated. This situation has alse been helped by the raising of the speed limit on the track to 15 m.p.h. from 5 m.p-h. At the Ottawa meeting discussion took place as to possible ways in which the situation could be still further improved. The question of Canadian Pacific Limited scheduling their train movements over the crossing so that they would not be in the area during the rush hours in the morning and the evening was discussed. While it may be possible to secure some relief in this connection, it is doubtful that this will be very effective as the Railway must maintain service to its customers if it is to retain the business.
