ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The AGM is scheduled for 19-00, Piday, Apnil 40, 1999, at Carousel Thearre, 141 | Cartwright Street, Granville Island. Car- ousel Theatre is in the space that used tobe the Cartwright Street Gallery, in between the Granville Island Brewery (at the cor- ner of Anderson and Cartwng2ht) and Dan- i¢] Materna's Studio (at the corner of Cartwright and Old Bridge), Enclosed with this newsletter is a proxy form; if you are unable to attend the AGM, you may fill it out and assign your ¥vote to another member. Please ensure that member brings this completed form with him/her to the AGM, This year we have two vacancies on the Board. We are very fortunate that no cur- rent board members are stepping down but we want as many candidates as possible to run for these vacancies. SIXTH ANNUAL MADE OF CLAY SALE EVENT April 30 and May I - 2 Many participants in the Made of Clay sale are already aware that the exhibition planned for the 20th Anniversary Pavilion on Granville Island in the old information centre ts cancelled. Neither the Granville Island management nor I could locate se- cure display cases for Jess than a rental charge of $4,000! It was a good idea! We may do something similar laterin the year. Please see Ron Feicht's article on the next page for more specific information on the sale, Z MADE OF CLAY BOOK SALES Made Of Clay book sales for February are 31, 3 wholesale and 48 retail copies. Please note we de not have complete sales fig- ures from all sources. Halfofthe monthly sales were made atthe Art Teachers Convention in Victoria by Celia and Keith Rice-Fones who flagged our wares! THANKS TO MANY On March 13 and 14, the Guild hested a Raku-U eventon Granville [sland | would. like to give big hearty thanks to Ronda Green and John Cloutier for co-organiz- ing, tothe many throwers and handbuilders for donating time and work, to Mudslinger for providing the party place and bisquing the work, and to the dedicated raku potters Pat Grabst, Ronda Green, Barb Duncan, Amy Wong, Ron Feicht, John Cloutier, all of whorn stood fora day or twe inthe cold, sometimes very wel, sometimes almost sunny weather. This became a successful fundraiser thanks to the generosity of Dave Dobie at Greenbarn Powers Supply who donated notonly 10 boxes of raku clay but also the glazes. Greenbarn has been one of the longest supporters of the Potters Guild of BC with their paid ad in the newsletter. Their extra donations are deeply and sin- cerely appreciated: THANK YOU ta Dave and everyone involved! OFFICE ASSISTANT WANTED The Board of Directors recently approved the 1999 budget including a permanent part-time office assistant position to help in the Guild office two days a week. For some time | have been less involved with the daily activities of the Gallery because of the demands of clerical work, inputting numbers, managing the membership data- base, and dealing with the continual stream of information requests, With the addition of an office assistant who can do many rowtine tasks, I can spend more time in the Gallery. If you know of anyone who may be interested in this position, please en- courage him orherto apply. See page 8 for details; the deadline for applications ts Wednesday, April 7th.
