THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C O UJ . N G | MEMO NOV 1 1976 -TO: MAYOR & COUNCIL “DATE: . OCTOBER 22, 1976 FROM: BUILDING & PROTECTION. COMMITTEE RE: Emergency Health Services Commission's Policy on Purchasing of Existing Ambulances used by Municipalities or Privately-owned Ambulances. Background: The Emergency Health Service have in past payed the City for the use of the Fire Department Inhalator and Rescue vehicles as ambulances. They also pay for garage rental and a fixed sum for each inhalator or ambulance call. The commission now have a‘policy that they do not rent these vehicles. They are attempting to acquire these vehicles wherever possible and, accordingly, has made an offer to purchase our Inhalator and Rescue vehicle. If the Province purchased these units they would remain at our Fire Halli and the rental payments would cease, but the garage rental and per call payments would be the same. The amount offered for the two vehicles would not purchase and equip a new rescue vehicle. If the City does not sell these two vehicles, then the Province would supply two fully equipped ambulances and the operation would be the same as before with only one exception the City would not receive the rental monies but would receive all the per call payments and garage rental. With the opening of the Northside Hall, it seems more economical to retain these units and keep one at each hall as rescue vehicles, and would act as back-up for the ambulance. . Recommendation: That the Building and Protection concurs with Mr. Pollock's recommendation that the City retains these vehicles and that the Province be requested to supply fully equipped ambulances to be operated by the Fire Department. W.S. Wingrove, Fire Chief.
