THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM TO BR. Kirk DATE: April 26, 1990 City Administrator FROM: D.G. Riecken Acting City Engineer SUBJECT: Design of Traffic Signals Prairie Avenue at Oxford Street (Public Works Committee Neeting April 26, 1990) RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) That approximately $6,000 from the Developuent Cost Charge Road Reserve fund be allocated for the purpose of designing traffic signals for the intersection at Prairie Avenue and Oxford Street. 2) That R.P. Shaflik Engineering Ltd. be hired to carry out the design work. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: When discussing the recommendations of the Public Works Committee report. of April 18, 1990 at their regular meeting of April 23, 1990, Council referred the matter back to the Committee to determine whether or not the suppliers of the traffic signal controller would provide a design service for the signal installation at no cost or at 4 lower cost than that submitted by Shaflik Engineering - The Traffic Technician has contacted three firms known to supply controllers, namely Fortran Traffic Systems Ltd. , Novax Industries Corporation, and Econolite Canada Incorporated. None of the above firms indicated that they would be able to submit sealed engineering plans to the City for the signal installation. The Committee therefore reaffirmed its earlier recommendation that Shaflik Engineering be hired to proceed with the design. The information to be supplied by the City comprises primarily as built records of roadworks and utilities, as well as desired signal timing, sequencing of phases, preferred controller options, etc. Shafiik would then prepare the electrical and civil design drawings, contract documents and specifications, and provide inspection service, contract administration assistance, and as built drawings.
