1607 Stella Place Port Coauitlam. Fis Worship the 4 May City Aldermen. : Sirs, I noticed this day that Bousehold Fuel deliveries by Furnace. Oil Supplies of Burnaby, are now arriving in very much larger vehicles than formerly. In the lane at the rear of this address, F.0.S. delivered Fuel Oil in a SIX WHEELED "WHITE FREIGHTLINER" Truck. of a GROSS VEFICLE WEIGHT of 23,265 Kilograms. which is in excess of 23 Tonnes. The roads of the residential districts of Port Coquitlam and Mary Fill in particular, were never designed for, and are totally unsuitable for vehicles of this weight. Such vehicles are difficult to maneouver in these relatively narrow streets, and would require to be driven in teverse gear for substantial distances. Added to the safety hazards of Children at play, and private cars parked in the streets, there would in times or poor visibility as in rainy weather, and the hazards of driving in conditions of Icy surfaces,: and of snow. The risk of a Twenty odd Tonne vehicle loaded with fuel oil skidding off the road into a house could add a very considerable Fire Risk. . There is I am given to understand, no weight restriction in force in this City, and it may please your Worship, and Aldermen, to give some consideration to the problem, Perhaps at a future date, 7.0.S. may consider 23 Tonnes too small economically, and promote the use of 50 Tonne or even 100 Tonne vehicles. , Sincerely, Ray Whalley,
