Her summer on the courts started in June when she was invited to play for a B.C. junior girls team in the Super Soco Expo Tournament at Richmond from the 10: player at the Canadian Junior Girls Tournament. he _ takes more honors 24th to 27th. This series featured 16 girls and 16 boys teams against strong entries from Japan, United States, Alberta, Saskat- chewan and Ontario. Hendry’s team finished second to South-West United of Seattle. She was among 10 regulars and two alter- nates named to the under-17 B.C. youth team representing the province in the Western Canadian Junior Girls Tournament at Leth- bridge, Alberta. Issy Maryntschak of Kitimat also gained a berth on the under-17 squad. The under-17s won the four-province western series and Hendry was selected as the tourna- ment’s most valuable player. Following this it was. on to Penticton for more training with the under- 16s. Next on her travel agenda was a trip to a tournament in Phoenix, Arizona for a 16-team series. At Phoenix, the B.C. team placed-fifth overall. The tourney was won by southern . California — the team that B.C. lost to by only one point earlier. Instead of all-stars, the Phoenix tournament picked one outstanding player and nine all- American players as the best of all the talent. Hendry was named one of the all-Americans. Hendry is back home now preparing for a season at Caledonia Senior Secondary High School where she'll be a leading light on the Ker- mode girls’ team that will seek a B.C. title next March.
