THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM MEMO TO: Doug Riecken June 20, 1990 Acting City Engineer MEMO FROM: Gordon Voncina Operations Manager SUBJECT : Bailey Bridge Guard Rail Installation As per your request, I have reviewed the installation of the metal guard rail across the wooden railing wings of the Bailey Bridge located on Pitt River Road. The metal guard rail application on the wooden railing is. unsuitable due to the elevation changes of both approaches to the bridge. In addition, the skew angle of the newly installed guard rail would not allow for a smooth transition of guard rail sections to match with the metal guard rail presently.) * installed on the Bailey Bridge. It is recommended that concrete guard rail will be utilized to protect motorists approaching either side of the bridge. The use of the concrete guard rail would minimize the risk of a vehicle breaking through the portions of the approach now protected by wooden railings. The cost of such an installation should be funded from un-allocated capital as a new installation, as the present bridge maintenance account has been expended re-decking the bridge. Please find attached an estimate of $8,370.00. Respectfully submitted, ira on Voncina Sad IL 2 La ter ae aoe ITEM ยข PAGE 49 wee emwe dene?
