Students in elementary school] are being asked to write an essay of 100 wards or fess, saying how they would help end poverty. First prize nets the winner a $50 pill certificate; second prize is worth $30 while the third place winner gets a $15 gift certificate. Al the high school level, students are invited to wrile an essay 3500 words or less about “ways in which to al- leviate poverty.’ Prizes at this age level are the same as above. The ad- judicator was so impressed he had her take a bow. Beckwith's song first be- gan asa poem she wrote this Christmas about the music animals make, “It was so great,’’ says her music teacher Sandra Konkin, “The poem was meant to be sung.’? So Konkin turned the pocm into a music project in which the whole class could participate, She wrote the words of Beckwith’s poem onto chart paper and the class decided where the beats should go and the rhythm of: the words. Then they put in the high and low parts, symbols, and they were able to con- vert the poem into a song. “Then we took it all the way io the music festival.” The children made special masks for the performance and took the parts of crick- els, cals, and birds. Beckwith was excited about the way the per- formance went, demonstrat- ing how the cricket rubbed its legs, and how the cats stepped softly. Emergency room nurses are also not allowed to give medical advice over the phone. EMERGENCY patients are assessed on arrival and those with serious and/or life threatening problems are seen first. The hospital does not have on site emergency physicians. In a real emergency “on-cail’ doctors are available.
