September 23rd, 1974 satisfaction in dealing with a Committee Chairman, that the matter be mentioned to him and he would bring it forcefully to the attention of the Committee Chairman and perhaps the staff member involved in the particular question. Failing satisfaction at this stage, then it would, of course, be quite proper for the matter to be raised in Council, but with a warning to the particular “ommittee Chairman and himself of that intention. In his report, the Mayor further stated his opinion that the "New Business" section of the Council agenda is being abused as some of the Aldermen are using it as a free-for-all discus- sion period, and pointing out that items brought up under New Business should only be those items that, in the opinion of the Aldermen, require Council action on that particular evening and cannot possibly be reduced to writing for submittal to the Clerk and placement on the Agenda in the normal way. A brief discussion ensued concerning the above~stated report, and Alderman Traboulay advised he was very much opposed to the suggestions that are stated therein, as in his view they restricted his right to speak as an Alderman. His Worship the Mayor then inquired whether or not the Council was in favour of his proposal and the following motion was then proposed: Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That members of Council accept the directive of His Worship the Mayor as stated in his report dated September 9th, 1974, that item6) of new business concerning the Committees be referred directly to the Committee Chairman invol- ved, and failing to obtain satisfaction from the Committee Chairman, that the Mayor then be requested to bring the item(s) forcefully to the attention of the Committee Chairman, and should he also fail to obtain satisfaction, that the Alderman then advise the Committee Chairman and the Mayor of his inten- tion to submit the item(s) to an open Council meeting. Carried. Alderman Traboulay voted against the resolution. Ald.Traboulay re Alderman Traboulay commented on his attendance at the Union of British UBCM Convention Columbia Municipalities' Convention last week and advised that the most in- formative part of it for him was a discussion on housing, and he requested that the Mayor establish a Committee to deal with the provision of housing in the Community and the Mayor said that he would do this during the coming week, Ald.Keryluk re Alderman Keryluk also commented on his attendance at the Union of British UBCM Convention Columbia Municipalities’ Convention last week and stated he found the sessions on housing to be very informative and that the ideas he got were of sufficient authority to cause him to do some re-thinking on the problem of providing
