Eastern Region

Northwest Communkty Collage, Eastern Region (serving Smithers,
Hazelton & Houston, 8.C.) is seeking applications for a First Nations
Student Access Coordinator responsible for providing support services,
information and assistance to First Nations students. This is a part time
(60%) term position commencing August 22, 1997 and terminating June
30, 1999. The salary wi be in accordance with the Collective
Agreement between the College and B.C.G.E.U. Support Seale (under
review).

DUTIES: -

Coordinating cross-cultural events for students, staff and the community
providing career exploration, onlentation and student - survival
workshops. Liaison with staff, student associations, bands, high
schools, communities and local agencies. Initiating, organizing and
Promoting cultural activities and student support groups. Participating
on First Nations Council. Advocacy for First Nations students and First
Nations issues as required. (Travel will be required.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of a post-secondary program and/or relavant
work experience, Knowledge of the complexities and Intricacias of First
Nations communities, Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of
the culture and traditions of the Gitxsan, Wet’suwet'en and Carrier
Nations. Familiarity with ome or more languages of the Gitxsan,
Wet'suwet'en and Carrier languages would be an assat. The successful
appticant will have a valid drivers licence and must be willing to travel.
SKILLS:

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both
oral and written, and a demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural Issues.
Knowledge of student funding issues and sources is required.
Familiarity with College, Provinclat and Federal! Education policies and
procedures.
