These pets have, I believe, the Tight to go to the park with their _Owners as much as any dog, cat, or bird owner has the right to take * them to the park. People may have their phobias of snakes but believe me, a snake will. not chase you at the park. Snakes have gotien a rotten reputation from movies, books and T,V. People need to be edu- cated on these pets, and realize that they are just gentle docile creatures that enjoy a nice sunny day at the park with their owner. Christene Riga, kak kk ~ Dear Sir: Perhaps someone out there can explain something to me. I don’t quite understand why everyone is so worked up about this snake is- suc, So far, no one has been hurt or even threatened by the reptiles’ presence in public places. - approached one of these beau- tiful: creatures a few weeks ago, and it appeared to be a quict, slow-moving animal just out to get a litlic sun. These snakes are not even poisonous. Calm down, Terrace| “ According to last week’s paper, Ruth Hallock said she would like to see a total ban of dangerous animals in Terrace, at least in public places. Good. Then the . snakes can stay, and perhaps the dogs can go. Far more people are bitten by these. household pets per year than are bitten by snakes, And far more diseases are trans- mitied through the saliva of dogs than through that of snakes, that is, if snakes do indeed have saliva. On that point I am not too clear. sidclines and watch the action go on, J am one of these people, and ] like to get involved a little bit when the particular situation gets totally ridiculous. About the snakes in. the park, here’s what I think, Well, (’m not afraid of snakes. Dogs don’t scare me either. But when you may be sitting in the park having lunch, and you notice this 9-foot long bump in-your-pic-. .... .. nic towel, I for one would definitely complain. I don’t find anything wrong with the snakes being in the park, it is the owners that bring them there. They are the main problem. Here’s another idea. If you ‘Snakes can stay and perhaps the dogs can go. Far more people are bitten by these household pets per year than are bitten by snakes.” No one in the history of mankind has ever contracted rables from a snake. Ruth Hallock is obviously terrified of them. Personally, I am terrified of bees, I go nuts if one so much as buzzes within 50 feet of me. I would like to see all bees banned form public places in Terrace. They arc just as dangerous an non-venomous snakes, if not more so, because so many people are fatally allergic to their stings. And who’s around supervising the bees in the park and making sure they are under control? And to you, Mr. Graydon, per- haps you can explain to me the connection you make between putting a ban on snakes and con- trolling the population of tigers in the city? While we are at it, why don’t we also put a ban on gold- fish, thereby preventing our city from being overrun by the Texas prairie chicken? Let’s use a little common sense, here, Terrace. Let’s put our limited time and energy into wor- rying about something a lot less silly, which includes pretty much anything else you can think of, if - you ask me, Jody McMurray, kk kkk Dear Sir: , There are certain people in the world that like to sort of sit on the SUPERIOR LINEN SUPPLY TIME CLEANERS LTD. 4404 Legion Ave, by the Curling Rink. |TABLE LINEN RENTALS Available tn various sizes and colours, Perfect for weddings, banqueis or any special occasions, PLEASE CALL 635-2838 TO BOOK TABLE LINEN FOR YOUR NEXT FUNCTION AND ASK FOR BRYAN OR LINDA.
