3361 Wingrove Place Port Coquitlam, B. Cc. V3B 123 April 8, 1987 % Mayor and Council 2272 McAllister Port Coquitlam, B. Cc. Dear Sirs: The residents on the east side of Viscount Alexander School grounds are most concerned that the Recreation Department is being pressured to allow adult ball games on the two diamonds adjacent to our properties. We would like to state that as taxpayers we have no objections to the utilization of the schoolgrounds for childrens teams though we must endure the loud instructions and somewhat over exuberant encouragement of: their coaches. However, adult games go on every evening until dark, and ali day Saturday and Sunday. The earlier daylight saving time this year will add 4 weeks to our misery. It is not just the teams who are noisy, it's their entourages with their loud cars, ghetto blasters, beer and totally unacceptable foul language. The after-game alfresco parties result in litter and broken bottles, not only throw in the neighbourhood yards, but often left in the school grounds where they present a hazzard to the students, Locai residents can not enjoy sitting on their own decks, or even indoors with doors and windows Open because of the noise. There is always a danger from softballs and baseballs to residents working or relaxing in yards next to these diamonds, in fact damage to buildings and windows has occurred. The banning of adult team games in 1986 certainly reduced this problem, however, it would appear that "renegade" or"pick-up" teams of adults can not read the signs posted, and each of the last three week-ends has seen adults on these diamonds. Most of us have been taxpayers for many years and feel we are entitled to the quiet enjoyment of our homes in the summer, Surely we should not be forced to leave the area each week-end to find peace and quiet elsewhere. We therefore ask that the signs disallowing adult games remain and that these rules be enforced by someme with the authority to do so. f Kaepod LON.
