RECOMMENDATION:

_ That a new gravel surface parking lot be constructed ! get BE

$7,000 be taken from the unallocated. funds In the Public Works
Budget. -—

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:

Central Park Is used for soccer games on evenings and
weekends but the-only parking space avallable is some on-street
parking at the west end of Central Avenue, This -ts far from
} being sufficient, especially when games are being run
pe consecutively and teams arrive for the second game before the
ee ' first one -l:s completed. The parking probiem has been. a. po
re constant source.or irritation. for the residents of, the street. wo
i There are apparently many times when.the end of the street Is
so congested that the owner of 2352 Central:!Is not. able -.to
leave his driveway. i

“: A- previous budget sought to have some additional. .
parking created on Rowland Street behind the park but this was : ‘
cut out of the. budget and no work was ever, done. It was not ;
certain in’ any’ case that any additional parking. on Rowland

would relieve the problem on Central. :

The City owns two lots adjacent to the soccer field
on theinorth sids: of Central and these. lots are ideally :
; sittuated for a parking area. It is felt that parking for 20... ot

| cars would be sufficient and such a parking lot can easlly be . wo
accommodated in a portion of the two City lots, leaving some ar
space at the rear of the lots to remain [In grass. The Se
construction of a gravel parking lot is estimated to cost
$7,000 and this sum is available in the unaltocated Publlie :
Works budget. :
