Tire-lire vous souhaite un bon été! | Continued trom page3 ag from page 3 e In all, 433 children under the age €£= of five currently attend one of the 21 preschools in the province. Eight- een of these facilities are located in CSF schools and 17 are managed by parent volunteers. Add to this the 408 children registered in the province's six Franc dé- part centres, also located in CSF schools, and the results are most impressive! Exciting School Elections The school elections last fall gar- nered a great deal of interest, with at least two candidates for most of the vari- ous positions. Many parents’ associations demonstrated their interest, inviting local candidates to meetings with the parents in their schools in an effort to make an informed choice. Following the announcement of election results in late November, the seven elected officials, each repre- senting a region of the province on the new CSF board of trustees, got right to work. This is the first term as CSF trustee for four of the individuals elected. Secondary on the Hot Seat In early 2012, the secondary school issue mobilized the parents of Ecole André-Piolat in North Vancouver. With support from the FPFCB, the school par- ents’ association managed to ensure that high school instruction would con- tinue to be offered at the school, thus preventing the proposed move by the CSF to transfer the students of grades 10, 1] and 12 to Ecole Jules-Verne in Van- couver in 2012-2013. This episode proves, once again, that parents have a voice and that they are prepared to speak up on behalf of their children’s education, even at the secondary level! Francophone secondary level edu- cation is a major issue for the FPFCB, as well as for many local parents’ as- sociations. Secondary school revitaliza- tion committees have been established in several francophone schools and we encourage all parents to get involved in committee activities. At the provincial level, the FPFCB favours that all of the partners in education work together in seeking solutions designed to encourage students to stay in the francophone sec- ondary school programs. Thanks fo all of the Parent Volunteers for their Dedication As the school year draws fo a close, the FPFCB would like to take this oppor- tunity to thank the parent volunteers from across the province for their commit- ment to making our schoo! communities a place where the academic, cultural and community environment fosters our children's development, in French, at every level, from preschool to secondary. Behind every successful school, are par- ents who get involved! The entire team joins me in wishing you and your families a fabulous summer! ©
