Successful event at Smithers Pubic Library By Patrick Witwicki \ , [Te beat Santa Claus. Yep, you read that right : our first-ever event, in partnership with the Smithers Public Library, was an amazing success. The cel- ebration took place Saturday, September 26, and more than 40 people (parents and chil- dren) participated, and believe me, there wasn’t a lot of space open to watch the performance of Anne Glover! AFFNO set up outside the library with a large selec- tion of various books for our members, refreshments, and Francophone music. But the highlight of the event took place inside the li- brary. First off, ] read a French story (Huge the Pirate) to the kids, translating in to English as I went. Then, Anne Glover per- formed her show for approxi- mately one hour. Her presentations are in two languages — French and English. It’s likely that at least half of the kids who attended aren’t in French Immersion; that said, every single child had the chance to enjoy the show. Glover, as you are aware (she hosted workshops and other shows in both Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert back in May) is a story-teller who uses string to make various shapes. Glover also hosted various performances in Ter- race during the first week of October. See ‘Smithers Library” on page 9. Anne Glover raconte des histoires, mais aussi, elle crée des formes avec de la ficelle! Patrick Witwicki photo
