}Bldg.Comm. re Prov.Bldeg. standards impts. -single family vesidences in Re: property trade-City & Meridian Dev, October Ist, 1973 From the Building Committee, September 28th, 1973, for information, regarding the Provincial Building Standards which Were enacted approximately one year ago, commenting that at that time the City objected in view of the fact that it took away its authority to pass by-law amendments to meet ‘local conditions; also, that adhering to the Code wilt bring about a lowering of residential construction Standards and that commercial standards would in- crease to the point that renovation of many such buildings in Pert coquitlan would not be permitted; therefore, the Committee will be reviewing the City's position with the City Solicitor and submitting comments to the Department of Municipal Affairs so that it is aware of these problems. Frem the Building Committee, September 28th, 1973, regarding additions or alterations to existing single family residences in apartment zones, and recommending the following amendment to Section 703(3) of the Municipal Act to permit Counci2s co -include in their Zoning By-laws the rules under which structural elterations might be permitted to nonconforming buildings: “(3) A lawful use of a building or structure existing at the time of adoption of the Zoning By-law, although such use does Rot conform to the pro- visions of the Zoning By-law, may be extended throughout the building or structure, but no structural alterations except chose required by Statute or by By-law or permitted by By-law or those allowed by the Board of Variance shall de made therein or thereto, (3A) Where a lawful. use of the building or structure is existing at the time of the adoption of the Zoning By~law, although sch use does not conform to the provisions of the Zoning By-law, the Council, in the.
