fifty members in attendance and the contribution required from the City would

probably be in the neighbourhood of $100.00.

Our Assessor Jim Buchan is the Secretary of the Association and it would be
fitting for us to participate in the hosting of the June meeting. As other
municipalities have contributed on the same basis I would recommend that we

assist the Assoctation in hosting the meeting at a maximum contribution of

$100.00,

3. Additional Staff - Assessment and Engineering Department

During budget discussions this year the Finance Committee has discussed certain

staff requirements in the City Hall in particular additional staff for the

Assessment and Engineering Departments.

The Assessment Department has requested an additional appraiser in view of the
anticipated workload resulting from recent legislative changes and also due to
the fact that due to the pressure of mill rate limits the City will no doubt
have to go on a two roll system for 1974, I have discussed the two roll system

with Council previously and will be providing further information on this particular

matter.

Maintaining an adequate assessment roll is of course the key to our major revenue
sources and the addition of one man in the Assessment Department will bring our
Staff to an appropriate level for our size of municipality. The Finance Committee

have agreed with the addition of one man and I would recommend that we give the

Assessor authority to proceed with hiring.

The other area where staff is cequired is in the Engineering Department. The
Planning and Zoning Industrial Committee have requested beefing up staff in this
area due to the activity in planning and zoning and industrial matters. As Council
is aware we have permitted the staff level to remain constant in the Engineering
Department in spite of the need for staff due to the space available for employees

to work. With the renovations nearing completion the Engineering Department will
